KIids on Bikes

No, NOT peddle bikes. Dirt bikes. They piss me off. Not all of them. Just three of them. It's the tree-hugging Horse Nazis that REALLY piss me off. "But, why"? Well I'll tell you why.

Local to my home are a huge number of public properties that are set aside for hiking and hunting and bicycle riding and bird watching and all that crap. There was one, and only one, small state forest that WAS legal to ride ATVs and dirt bikes. I used to go there to ride. All the time. Sadly, the stupid DCR one day decided to close the forest to ATV use. This was spurred on by the Horse Swells (who had eight bazillion other acres to ride in in the same general area) and the new neighbors who moved in knowing DAMN WELL that the forest was there but not liking it after they moved. So the mobilized, under the thin veil of tree-huggary, and hounded DCR until they finally closed the forest to ORV use. As there was no where to fish in the park and no good views and not owning a horse, so ended any and all use that I had for this park. So ended my desire to purchase, maintain, ride or register my dirt bike since I had no desire to haul it to the next closest legal riding area over two hours away.

Then I started Geocaching. It turns out that there is one, and only one, geocach in the whole forest. I thought that this would be a great excuse to put the baby in a back-pack and the dog on a leash and re-visit my old stomping grounds. We found the cache easily and then set out to explore some more. It sure took longer to get from place to place on foot whith a 30 pound pack and dog in tow than it did on a bike!

So there we are, walking up the forest road when I hear it: the unmistakable sound of dirt-bike motors. Three kids, two on bikes and one on quads came by. They were respectful of out walk but I'll bet you a thousand dollars that if I was not also a motorcycle rider, I would not have realized that they were, indeed, being respectful. None the less, I was pissed. I was pissed at them, and all the other riders who rode when and where they were not supposed to and led credance to the complaints of the tree-huggers and horse-swells. Mostly I was pissed off at the DCR and the Environmental Police.
